Mid City is a roughly eight-square-mile area and was one of the first expansions of the city of Baton Rouge outside of its 1817 boundaries. It was once considered rural outskirts of the city until its peak development in the 1940s and 50s when it was incorporated as an official part of Baton Rouge.
For the purpose of your home search in this area, it is inclusive of The Garden District which is composed of three historic districts — Roseland Terrace, Drehr Place, and Kleinert Place, Capital Heights, Hundred Oaks, Areas to the North and South of Government Street, Old Perkins Road, Goodwood and east to Tara.
Along the Mississippi River, Downtown Baton Rouge is home to the Louisiana State Capitol building and its adjacent leafy gardens. A lively restaurant and nightlife scene includes daiquiri bars and a riverside casino, while the Spanish Town Historic District showcases 19th-century architecture. The area is also home to the Pentagon Barracks Museum, and the grand Governor’s Mansion on the shores of Capitol Lake
